Do you like any names soley for their meanings?
I'm really liking the name Akasha (Uh-Cuh-sha) which is Indian, and means space or sky.
I'd never actually use it, but iuno, there's something quite lovely about it.
So go. Name's that you like because of their meanings.

Some Welsh names (both girl's names):
Ceridwen (Ke-RID-wen): Blessed song
Aranwen (Ah-RAN-wen): Silver & Blessed
Elwen (EL-wen): Friend of the elves
I don't think I'll ever use any, but I think they are pretty mainly because of their meanings.

I really like the name Felix because it means happy/glad. That's reason enough to use it, I think.

I do too. I like it for other reasons as well, but the meaning really makes me love it.

I might like a name MORE because of it's meaning, or I might like it less because of it's meaning, but mostly I care about how the name looks/sounds. From hearing the name "Michael," you don't think, "Oh, that means 'Who is like God?'", you know? I might, but everyone else who meets my son won't.

I love Hikari, both the sound and the meaning.

we almost named our girlie michi which translates loosely as wilted flower. it's pronounced MEE-CHEE. that was my partner's favorite one but he wanted to to be...

michi calypso.

i like Zoe because it means "life." :)
on the other hand, i have a problem with some names because of their meaning. Delilah & Leah, for example. i like the names themselves, but not the meanings.

akasha is the name of anne rice's queen of the damned. i hear it and think of the book, then the movie, then aaliyah, and then her plane crashing...regardless of the native american (you do mean, native american, not indian, right?) translation all i get from the name is bad joojoo.

but then again, i have alaways have name association thingies going on.

Ayla because it means Oak tree.
I'm not sure whether I'd use it as a first name.

Satu, Finnish for fairytale. I don't think I could name a child Satu though...perhaps a kitten.

Er, maybe not Finnish for fairytale, but a Finnish name meaning Satu. I don't speak that language.

I don't really like any names because of their meaning. I might like a name AND its meaning but that is it. One name I do like is Frank, I don't know what it means but I like to be frank. So that is one of the reasons I like the name. Hmm, now that I think about it I also like ferns and the name Fern.
