Names I love and would use:
Ivy
Asha

Names I like and might use:
Kezia

Ellis

Names I like but don't know if I'd use:
Sky/Skye
India
Emelia

Ezra
Jesse
Ash

Names I like but are probably too popular to use:
Amelia
Phoebe
Kate

Max
Dylan
Elliot
Theo (but my brother is Leo so that might be a bit too similar anyway??)

So as you can see it's a bit brief and there are no boys names that I love anymore, help!
What are your favoutire boys names?
What boys names do you think I would like?

Also, for those of you who consider popularity when choosing names, where is your cut off line for "too popular"?
For me it used to be if its in the top 20 or I know too many people with that name, but now I'm just not too sure.

Also I was suprised to find that Ellis is way more popular than Elliot ( http://www.statistics.gov.uk/specials/babiesnames_boys.asp ) but I consider it to be the other way round because I have come accross a lot of Elliots and only one Ellis. This could be that there are more ways of spelling Elliot, though...

The one thing I wanted to mention is that while I love Ash, I feel like it's too nicknamey to be a stand-alone name. What about as a nickname for Asher?

Of your list, I really like Ivy, Amelia, and Kate for girls, and Ezra, Jesse, Max, Elliot, and Theo for boys. I don't think Elliot or Max is really THAT popular, at least not enough to warrant not using it if you really like it. My theory with popularity is that if it's popular for a reason (that is, it's a high quality name that has been common for a really long time, like those ones), then it's okay to use; if it's popular because it's trendy, like Aidan, Jackson (I feel differently about Jack), Dylan (sorry, I hate that name haha), etc. then it's probably best not to use it, because your kid will end up being really dated and there will be 585859595 kids with the same name in their kindergarten class, but no one really older or younger than they are.

Most of my favorite boys names (this also answers another of your questions) are really popular, but not trendy: Sam, Henry (I like Huck as a nickname for a kid and Hank on an adult), Charlie, Elliot, Caleb, James, Alexander, Michael, Peter, Asher, Ben, etc.

With that in mind, I'd say Elliot, Amelia, Kate, and Theo are okay to use despite their "popularity" because they're not THAT popular and they're not trendy, so while there might be one or two other kids in your child's school named Theo or Amelia, there isn't going to be 40 of them, and there isn't going to be 484848484 spelling variations of the name like there is with Aidan or something.

I don't worry that much about popularity, but I try to stay out of the top 20 if at all possible. However, if there's a name I really like in the top 20, I'm not going to cross it off completely. In fact, I think a few of my names are in the top 20 (maybe even 1 or 2 in the top 10?), but I don't mind that much and I'll probably still use them.

What about:
Graham
Gareth (like Garrett with an H on the end)
Hugh

Names I like but don't know if I'd use:
Sky/Skye- A bit new age hippy
India- See above
Emelia- Love, but Amelia.

Ezra- Like
Jesse- euw
Ash- Too short

Names I like but are probably too popular to use:
Amelia- Love
Phoebe- Love
Kate- boring

Max- My brothers name, but I like it
Dylan- Don't like
Elliot- Love
Theo - Love and i agree it's too much like Leo.

Note that was 2006.. Elliot might just have gone down in popularity recently, which is why you know mroe Elliots unless you were talking about actual babies.

Too popular..top twenty i think which sucks because I wish Amelia was a lot lower.

Those are good names, quite like them all. I only know one Ellis, a girl who is probably 14 now.

My fave boys names ...
August, Finn (itself or as a nn for Finlay/Finnegan/Griffin), Harrison, Kiran, Lennon, River, Rowan

Top 50, and/or if I know more than three IRL.
Generally try to stay out of the top 100, but can live with #100-50. I don't mind much for middle names, because those are to honour people.

PS. I've got friends in Chester (am from Hampshire myself), it's a nice part of the country.
