i don't think most people associate ana with anorexia...i'm prolly just strange (and just to clarify, i'm NOT anorexic:)) and i like hannah and hanna :)
I'm a dancer, so I've heard the term 'ana' used to reference anorexia; of course, I still think of Ana as my friend and NOT the eating disorder. Still and all, it makes you wonder.
I love the name Anna. It's one of those classic names that isnt used often. I like it spelt Ana- I do have the eating disorder, but i find it weird when people personify the disease. 'ana & mia' (bulimia) I find most people who use those names are pro-anorexic & that really really sucks. I don't imagine most people associate ana with the disease... so use it, i think its lovely!
Anna and Hannah are two different names and pronunciations. But Anna is very classic, it will pretty much go with any age and it's a really "safe" name. :) We're considering it as a middle name for our daughter.
My grandmother's name was Hanna (that is the Polish way to spell it), and I've wanted to give that name to my future daughter ever since she passed away (I was 12). The fact that I love the name helps too. (I was upset to see how popular it's become lately, though! But that won't stop me...)
Both Anna and Hanna(h) are beautiful, strong, feminine names. Ana looks a bit... abbreviated to me but I know that's how it's spelled in some languages. But Annagh... I agree with the above comments. Looks pretty harsh. And, she'd have to spell it every time, because it wouldn't occur to anybody that "Anna" can be spelled in a different way!
I like Anna the best b/c it's classic and not as common as Hannah is getting to be. I'd avoid spelling it Ana though b/c that's the Spanish spelling so it'd probably get pronounced like that too, "Onna."
I love Hannah and Anna, and totally thought you were joking about the "Annagh" part (you know, as some might say "What do you think, Mackenzie? McKenzie? Macmcmadelyyynkanezzie?") until I read the comments.
My brand new baby sister is named Anna, Anna Katherine. Only bad thing about her name is that her initials are AKC - American Kennel Club.
Annagh is way too much for me, and for me "Anna" is said Anne-uh and "Ana" is ON-a. I much prefer Anna. I think it's beautiful, and works well for a kid and an adult. Hannah is pretty in any spelling, but for some reason I've always preferred "Hanna." And I like Hana, but pronounced like...well, "Ana," with the H in front. Heh.
Anna and Hannah are both really lovely names. I would have to say Hannah is my fave. Ana and Hanna arent too bad if youre looking for alternative spellings. Some other ways of using Anna/Ana could be Annabelle (..Annabel, Anabel, Anabelle etc) or Annalise. Annagh is a no no. Sounds scary or something.

Date: 2005-10-12 08:49 am (UTC)bad: "ana" has become the short version of anorexia, many anorexics call their disease ana, and i've come to associate ana to the name
