Kansas is a guilty pleasure of mine. I've liked it ever since I heard it in a movie. I'd probably never use it on a human, but it doesn't stop me from liking it.
I went to high school with a guy called Kansas. His real name was something common, so his friends started calling him Kansas, as that's where he had grown up. I thus think of it as masculine, but don't care for it as a given name.
I was born in Kansas, and I love the state, and the word itself conjures beautiful pictures of endless prairies, crops waving in the wind, and storms building on the horizon...three hours away...that sort of thing. So it's a nice idea. For a girl.
But if I actually saw it on someone, I think the first thing I'd think of is, yeah, the band. Which I just can't get behind.
