Hullo, I'm new. :)

We (my husband and I) decided a few months ago that if we were to ever have a girl, Arianna Georgia would wind up being a lovely name for her. Arianna for the way it sounds and Georgia, my husband's paternal grandmother's first name (her other two female cousins both have Eileen as their middle names, from their maternal great-grandmother). Turns out I'm recently pregnant, and we can't wait to slap it on that birth certificate in a few months. Opinions?

I did find it difficult to swallow at first, the two like-sounding sounds at the end of both names. Seeing as they both end with an "A", it bothered me just a little, but I've gotten used to the idea and think it's still a lovely name nonetheless (as just "Arianne", to me, seemed lacking).

We would, however, probably be stumped if it were to turn out to be a boy. Suggestions?



Our toddler's name, by the way, is Gregory Kael (pronounced KAYL or Kay-EL--depends on which side of the family is saying it: his or mine, heheh). Always Gregory, rarely Greg, but he'll decide that on his own soon enough. It took us ages just to slap those two names together to find something we were both comfortable and satisfied with.

I really love Georgia. The nn Gia is adorable.

My problem with Arianna is that it looks/sounds like the word Aryan made into a name. I might be the only one who thinks that, but it just has a negative feeling to me.

You know, I've never actually thought of that. Now that you point it out, though, I'm sort of surprised I didn't see the likeness of the name to the word in the beginning. Thanks for that. :)

Haha! I have a story.
My brother's name is Ryan. My name is Claire and my other brother's name is Dale. My father has our cell phone numbers programed in his phone, and he wanted them to be the first three names. It wasn't a problem with my name or Dale because they come early in the alphabet, but he put an "a" in front of Ryan's name so it reads Aryan. I laugh a little every time I read it.

I think Arianna Georgia is lovely. I don't think the two As make that much of a difference - plus you won't be calling her by both names anyway.

I think Arianna Georgia is beautiful. I was mentally pronouncing the first name as ARianna, as opposed to AIRianna, though. I guess I automatically do that, and I didn't consider otherwise until the above poster mentioned it. I've never liked that Aryan connotations, either.

We plan on using the pronunciation of AR-ee-ah-nuh, but with relatives like mine it's bound to have various different pronunciations. :)

I'm not too fond of it, it's always been really popular among my age group, like when i was in school there was 4 other Nicola's in my year group.
I'm in the UK though and i hear it's not at all popular in the US or most other places.

You're right, it's much less common in the United States. I've never known a Nicola (I grew up in the US).
