Since i heard "Hey there Delilah" by Plain White T, the name has really grew on me.
I don't know if i'd ever use it, but if i had a child right now it'd be a possiblilty. I'd probably use the nickname Lila too.
What's everyones thoughts on it?

I'd like a little more story behind her name than just a popular song in the Summer of 07. It just seems cheap to name children in reference to popular culture. I dunno. I'm old fashion, I guess.

I'm not religious at all, either, but I heard a song about Samson and Delilah and learned about it from there.

Samson was a man in the Bible who had incredibly strength and his power lay in his hair. His wife Delilah kept asking him to tell her how he got his strength, but he never told. Then one day he did, she got it off and that's all I know.

I had no idea she was a sleepin'-around kind of gal, though.

Everyone has the religious connotations with the name, but most people get over it. Melissa means witch. Are you naming your child witch? I mean come on. Besides, the Bible grazes over that story as it does most stories without ever going into hows and whys. The story is about Samson so it's from his viewpoint. There's a song by Regina Spektor called "Samson" and it's amazing. I don't know. I really love the name and even more so after the song, but I'd say don't judge it based on religious connotations. If you like the name, name it. David wasn't the greatest guy either but everyone names their kid David. To me, he was a jerk even if he was God's chosen one. Oh well. Just name it if you like it. :D

I'm 41 weeks today, so a few days ago I gave up my one with my daughters name and her EDD (last saturday it was!!).

i've loved delilah since i was 15...so for 7 years now. everyone used to make fun of me for liking that name, and everyone made reference to the oh so annoying song by tom jones. i'm not religious, so i don't care about the negative bible connotation...i mean, the name delilah in itself means 'delicate', not 'biblical whore'.

Well, yes and no. God gave him supernatural physical strength, and the symbol of such was his hair. Thus, he was ordered to never cut it, lest he'd like to be a wimp. But Delilah, who was working for the enemy, was told to seduce him and figure out through that way how to take Samson's strength away. A game evolved with Samson giving her these ways to take his strength away, none of which was right. Eventually, though, he told her the truth. So she snipped his hair off, left him defenseless, and he became pretty much pathetic.
