I've really liked the name Odette for quite a few years now, but when I told two of my friends about it they both felt it was a bit dated. What do you guys think? Is it original or just old-fashioned?

It's both. Well, not original, as it is very old, but it's unusual and beautiful without being weird or made-up.

It's the name of the swan girl in Swan Lake. Very elegant, because of that association. The only thing wrong with it is that it offers no nicknames besides Odie, which I think it probably out.

Ettie. A little old-fashioned, but cute for a little one. I wouldn't use the name, but I like it.

As a dancer, I especially love the Swan Lake connection.

Beautiful name!

For some reason I'm holding back from liking it too much, but I think it is really pretty. And I refrain from judging names as "original" in any case because...well, we all know what really "original" names look like.

I kinda like it. It reminds me of the 'Swan Princess' or whatever it was called (oh, I see someone above posted the Swan Lake connection...I guess I meant that one ;)).
I like Odile as well...even though she was the 'bad' girl in the story.

I love it. Odie as a nickname is a little androgynous and silly, which I love.

I love it!

My husband and I played a video game where a character was named Olette (I'm not sure if that's how it's spelled, though) and I fell in love with that name as well, but felt it was a bit too close to the word omelet.

I've never heard it before and although it does have a classic feel to it, I think it's lovely and would work just fine.

Sorry to say, Odette has always struck me as a good name for a scented inner-sole.

I LOVE it. It's the name of the heroine in Swan Lake; it will never go out of fashion.

Whever I hear that name, I think of the title character in The Swan Princess from when I was little. I've never really liked it that much, honestly. :/
