I really like it :) If I wasn't dead set on leaving Amelia with the nickname Mia on my list, I'd add Miranda, and use Mia as a nickname for that instead.
I like it, but I'll always associate it with Sex and the City. Depending on when/if you have children you may not have to worry about that association.
It's my little cousin's name. I'm not so fond of it because I have a hard time saying it fast. For instance, if she's in the way of someone and needs to move or she's in trouble, it takes a long time for me to spill it all out. It might just be because of my annoying southern accent, but it drives me crazy. I guess it doesn't matter for me, though, since I wouldn't name my child the same name as someone I spend so much time with.
That's so funny! We just finished reading The Tempest in one of my classes. I grew to appreciate it more and lately it's been one of my top favorite names.
I think of...The Tempest, Sex and the City, and then the bitchy girl on As Told By Ginger. I'm not really a fan; saying it makes me feel like my head should be bobbling around. I don't know.
I don't really like it much. My first association, besides a cousin of mine, is Alice's Southern belle drama queen sister from "The Critic." "She was named after Miranda from The Tempest...I was named after Alice from 'The Honeymooners.'" Not a good association, but they called her Randa for short, and I like that.
Unfortunately, I often associate it with the show "Sex in the City" now. Still, it is a legitimate name , one that one hears more in England than in the States, presumably due to the Shakespearean origin of the name. (I can vouch for that as I attended university and law school in England, and my family is international and has traveled all over.)
My daughter is Miranda, Mia for short. I got it from lneef who wanted to use it at one point. Before her mention, I'd not given the name any thought, but once she mentioned it, I realized I loved it.
I've always loved Mia as a nickname, but my fiance was against Amelia, so I told him from the get-go that I wanted to use it for Miranda. He agreed. She's five months old.
Recently I realized I loved the name Charlotte, but he doesn't like it and Miranda and Charlotte are far too Sex and the City, even though my love for the names has zero connection to the show, which I only sort-of like.
Hee hee my FIL did that twice with my husband and his brother. She liked Piper and Nole, but my FIL chose Christopher and Jonathan while she was still out of it.
Yep, exactly right! It's from the gerundive of "to wonder" and it sort of literally means "one who must be wondered at" but in the way that means admirable and lovely and wonderful.
