what do you think about the name ARWEN for a girl ?

a woman in another forum asked this and now there is a big discussion about it and I was wondering what you think about the name...

I really like it
I know 5 arwens and they all like their name and do not have any problems with it....

There was a girl in my high school named Arwen. It suited her quite nicely, and she didn't really get bothered about the LOTR reference, even when her mom bought her a replica of Arwen's pendant from the movie.

I love it. It was on our list of name choices for the girls. We decided against it because of the movies being so popular. If the movies hadn't been made we probably would have named one of them Arwen. We went with another fantasy based name instead. (from Elric of Melnibone) We also liked Alwyn.

i like LOTR, but if i had to pick a name from the series, i'd pick eowyn [pronounced a-oh-in]. arwen's not bad though.

I like the name, but the character in LOTR would be a hard thing to live up to. I mean, what if the kid turned out to be rather plain and not beautiful at all? Although, I think it's a legit Welsh name, too.

Actually, it's pronounced more like Ear-win, given that the Rohirric language is rendered as Old English. The movie just screwed up the pronounciation.

I don't like LOTR at all, but I love that name. It's been on my list for about two years now. A lot of Welsh/Gaelic names are beautiful like that, IMO, and also have great meanings behind them.

I wouldn't have known it was from LOTR if it hadn't been mentioned in most of the comments. I guess I'm the only person left in the world who doesn't give a shit about that franchise. The name isn't my style, but I do think it's very pretty.

I don't like it because I like LOTR! she was in the books for like 5 seconds, and then they stretched out her part in the movies (omg it's liv tyler must have her on the screen at all times!) so much that they cut down the role of Eowyn, who was the real heroin of the books!
