My last name is pronounced "Lou." My husband and I like the whole first name/last name start with the same letter thing (to a point. One kid could have a name that started with L). Anyway, we were thinking about names that start with L and we don't have a lot of boys names we like, and we really only have one girls name. Lucy. Lucy "Lou".

Would that be terrible? Will Lucy Liu still be famous in 5, 10, 15 years? If she is, will it matter? Our last name and her last name are spelled differently, but they are both Chinese.

Are there other "L" names you can think of that are nice? We are pretty traditional, so no Leahana or Lemonspirit or things like that.

Thanks!

"Lucy-lou" was a common nickname for any Lucy when I was at school and I suspect that hasn't changed. I wouldn't use it for that reason, nothing to do with Lucy Liu. But it's your call.

Louisa or Louise, Leanne, Lorraine, Laura, Lalla, Lucia (with a CH in the middle it's much less likely to get shortened to Lucy), Lynette, Linnet, Lisa, Lydia.

I always liked the name Leilani. But Leilani "Lou" may be a mouthful. But I actually think it's pretty.

I like Lucy. It does sound a little.. nickname-y to me, but I think that's only because I'm thinking about it. If I met someone with the name, I don't think I'd give it a second thought. I'm also pretty out of the loop when it comes to celebrity stuff, so I'd probably just think the name sounded familiar from somewhere. I don't think it would be that bad.

Other L names on my list are Lydia & Lia.

Your icon and "Lemonspirit" just made my day.

Lemonspirit LMAO

Lorraine is my top girls' choice. :)

Lucy Liu, imo, isn't as big as a lot of other people, so if you really like it, use it. :)

True. I think it's just a little moreso with Lucy because as a previous commenter mentioned, it's already a common nickname for Lucy.

If you really love the name Lucy, I'd use it. My dad actually knew someone named Lulu Liu. o.O

I love Louisa but I think Lou Lou would be too redundant, same with Lucy, Lucia and Lucinda. I love other L names though like Leila, Lena, Lily and Leah.

I really like the name Levora, if it only weren't for the damn pill with the same name :P
I'd pronounce it Lev-OR-a, though, not LEV-ora.

I like Lilly. Lucy reminds me of the little girl off of 7th Heaven.

i love the name Laila or Leila, according to the book One Thousand Splendid Suns is means "night beauty"
you could name her Lucille and only call her Lucy if you felt it was appropriate, i suppose.

Lila and Lillian are two other nice L names.

Lucy "Lou" is a cute name. If you like it, go forit. A friend of mine just named her baby William Smith - Will for short. I really don't think he'll be teased about it, especially in 7 years when he is in school. Will Smith and Lucy Lou are not the same as naming your child Brad Pitt or Monica Lewinski.
