[identity profile] americandiva.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Ok so in one of my last posts I had  Carrie/Carey on my list...wanting to hear opinions on it.

And how i have another question.

Carey is my grandmothers maiden name and my parents thought about using it for me.,..but did not. I don't know if I would ever use the name bc ...well...idk if I love it or not. But I'm keeping it on the the list for now.

My question is...do you pronounced Carey and Carrie the same way?

personally I say Carey like Care-ee (the came care sound as in "to care for")
and I say Carrie very similar to Carry (like "to carry something")

(sorry for my odd pn explinations.

anyways how do u pronounce them both.

Aren't 'care-ee' and 'carry' pronounced exactly the same?

I pronounce them the same (as do I pronounce care + y and carry the same). However, and just a thought, I've always thought that "Carey" is more unisex than "Carrie".

I always prounouced Cary, Carey, Carrie, Kerry, and Kerie the same until I met my academic league coach. She's from Canada and she pronouces it "Keer-ie."

Also, Carey is a very versatile middle name if you don't want to use it as a first name.

I'm from the UK and with an English accent they would be pronounced differently - pretty much how you described. The "a" sound in Carrie is short, like in cat or hat, but in Carey it's long, like in care or bear. I prefer Carrie on a girl btw.

I pronounce them the same way, but I see Carrie as the girl's spelling and Carey as the boy's.

I like both names, but I think I prefer it on a girl, with the spelling Carrie. (Although Carey on a boy doesn't sound too bad, either)

let's see how weird this ends up sounding lol

i say them the same, however i can stretch it so that i say them differently... for instance, i can pronounce CARRY (as in "carry that bag") more like "cah-rey," even almost having more of a 'ka' sound at the beginning. then i would say care-y as "care-ee."

but, mostly, i say them the same.

i see Carey as a boy (ie: Carey Grant, Jim Carey), Carrie on a girl (ie: Carrie Bradshaw)

Which one does she pronounce 'keer-ie'? Because I'm from Canada, and the only one I'd pronounce like that is the last one, Kerie.

Yeah, it's the last one. Though, she often calls our Kerry 'keer-ie' to annoy him. We don't have any Carries, Careys, or Carys at my school so I don't know about any of those.
