Every year, at the beginning of January, my newspaper does a round-up of all the babies born during the previous year (well, the ones whose parents submit them, I guess). It is truly a plethora of names, some good, some bad, and some downright insane.

I, being the name-obsessed person that I am, gathered all the data for the 2006 babies and posted it in my livejournal. I found it today, so I figured I would post it here as well.

Abbegail - I wouldn't pronounce this AB-BEE-gay-al; I'd pronouce it ABE-gay-al. Spelling is important.
Adesynn - Again, I wouldn't pronounce this AD-DEE-son; I'd pronounce it AID-sin.

Amma - A cross between Emma and Anna?
Audrey - Middle-aged lady name. Come on, can't you just imagine Audrey and Colin as couple?
Ava-Leigh - Hyphenated first names are chavvy, personnally.

Iva - Will get "I've a..." jokes all her life.
Jaelyn - The "ae" just looks awful.
Jayden - The only one of the Aiden/Brayden/Cayden/Grayden/Hayden/Jayden/Kayden/Quaden/Tayden/Xaden/Zaden/etc. names that sounds even remotely feminine is Maiden (because that actually means an unmarried woman).

Pilar - I know there's a name in Spanish pronounced like this, but I don't think it's spelt like this or the one above.
Presley - Surname.
Raeanne - Again, with the horrid-looking "ae". It's just not aesthetically pleasing.
Raegan - Ditto.
Ryan - Boy's name.
Rylan - Male name. Apparently.
Rylee - Blimey O'Reilly's knickers again.
Rylie - Ditto.
Shailynn - Tacky.
Shawna - Don't like how it looks.
Shyanne - Tacky.
Sian - like
Sidney - Boy's name - in truth an out man's name.
Taya - dislike
Taytum - Most unfeminine name. Ever.
Teagan - I swear this isn't feminine either.
Teagen - Ditto.
Tiziana - O.o!
Vasilia - Reminds me of vaseline.
Vienna - Place.
Yasmeen - Better spelt Yasmine.
Yazmeen - Ditto.
Ysabella - Looks awful, and it seems weird to pronounce a "y" like "i" at the being of a name.

Any ones I didn't comment on, I'm not fussed about either way.

I think our sentiments on most of the names are the same, except for Aiden. Aidan is actually the proper spelling. I used to like Aidan, years and years ago because I had only heard it as the name of my church, but now it's just too popular. :P Oh, and Andrea is a boy's name in Italian. I'm assuming the parents are Italian, as there are tonnes of Italians in my city.
