How popular is Bronwynn?

It's not overly popular as far as I know, and I've never seen that spelling. More common, I think, is Bronwen.

I know a Bronwyn who is seventeen years old; she's the only one I've ever met.

I've known one Bronwyn as well, and she's in her early 20's. Her sisters name is Attalie.

Right, in Wales -wen is feminine and -wyn is masculine.

As far as I know, its not. I went to high school with a Bronwen and I talked with one on the phone once. Its been on my favorites list since high school and I'm 31 now. I've never seen it spelled that way before.

I've only met one Bronwen (I think that's how she spelled it) and she was the mother of one of my classmates in middle school.

In the past 15 years, Bronwen, Bronwyn, and Bronwynn have not ranked in the SSA's top 1000 names in America. So if you live in the States, there's your answer.

And for what it's worth, I think it sounds kind of masculine, though it's a female name.

I like that it's not popular. That's why I used it as my daughter's middle name (spelled Bronwen). I would have used it as her first name, but my husband wouldn't go for it. I spent a lot of time looking up names with Celtic and Welsh origins before I settled on that one, though.

I feel like you've been watching food network or reading old welsh lit but it's not very common at all.

Her first name is Lily (waaay too overused, but my husband wanted a name with Biblical leanings since he, his brother, and his sister all have "Bible names", and Lily was a compromise...) Some of my other favorite Welsh names were Ceridwen, Rhiannon, Arianna, Branwen, and and Rhonwyn.

I also like the name Gwenhwyvar, but I wouldn't do that to a kid, it's a little too odd for me.

Well, the -wyn element isn't gendered in Old English (Anglo Saxon) so you will see female -wyn names sometimes. But, not from Wales.

I love the name Bronwyn! I too tried to convince my husband to get it on the short list for girls names, but he wasnt too keen on it. I worked with a lovely woman named Bronwen a few years ago. She's British, and said it was more common in the UK. I haven't met anyone else since and that was 6-7 years ago.

Here's one of my favorite sites: www.babynamesofireland.com

Good luck with Bronwyn!
