There is an LM Montgomery (same woman who wrote Anne of Green Gables) book called "Magic for Marigold," and for those of you who aren't familiar with it, it is about a little girl who is born after her father dies, and at the beginning of the book, the whole extended family comes together to try to figure out a name for her. Eventually, the child gets very sick and they name her after her doctor who saves her life (Marigold Woodruff Lesley is the name they settle on--I'm fond of both, because Woodruff is a family name). But I thought for fun I would post the names they mention in the story before they settle on one to see what you all think of them.

BTW, you can read the book online here

Keep in mind it was published in 1929.

Marigold is quite interesting! it reminds me a bit of 'goldisfh', but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It sounds like Mary+Gold, that's quite sweet.
Does it have its own meaning?

Why couldn't the mom name her.. ?

I used to like Clementine until I looked up the lyrics to that song.

Of all of those I like:
Rosaline
Adela
and Jane.

Some of the others are just yikes!

Well, it's a type of flower..

babynames.com just says it means "yellow flower", which it is.

I can't say that I hate any of these (though I am no fan of Bertha or Yvonne). My favorites are Clementine, Hero, Harriet, Theodora, and Jane.

Clementine sounds dumpy to me, but I really like Hero actually. It's starting to grow on me.

My favorite LM Montgomery name is Rilla (Rilla of Ingleside is a great book!) I'm not crazy over Marigold though.

OMG my favorite book!

One of my top ten, anyway.

Don't forget Edith! That was Old Grandmother's name, right?
