I was completely enamored with that name for a long time until a friend told me that her nephew -who's name was Phoenix- was being called, "Penis Phoenix" at school. That QUICKLY squashed my hope/want of ever naming a child that.

However, we named our littlest kitten that. :D

I would also say it depends on how it is spelled- at least for me.

Phoenix- more for a boy.
Phoenyx- More for a girl.
