[identity profile] jenmarie.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hello!

I'm due with my second baby in October and we are not finding out what we're having. So, this time around I have to come up with a decent selection of both boy and girl names. eep!

Here's what I have so far.

Girls:
Hope
Megan (or variation)
Joy
Allegra (or variation)
Nadia (or variation)
Phoebe
Josslyn
Elaine (middle name)
Sage
Constance (middle name - my mom's name)
Star (middle name - likely choice for boy or girl, story behind it)
Tara

Boys:
Griffin/Griffon/Gryphon
Gideon
Penn
Kellen
Mason (middle name - also my husband's name, and he's Mason IV ... he kind of wants to go for a Mason V, but I just don't know about that)
Grey/Greyson
Tallon
Terran
Connell
Gavin

Any thoughts on these, or combinations of these? We have a very common, 2-syllable last name.

What is your first child's name? That might help people to pick a name that kind of goes with it.

Oh I love Allegra! I think Allegra Sage sounds really cute. I'm not a fan of the name Star, but if you guys like it, then that would go very well with Allegra too, IMO.
Joy Constance and Penn Mason sound good too =)

Hmm, that's tough. On one hand, you need something that goes well with it. I'd say word-names, like Hope or Grace or Joy. But then, on the other hand, those sound WAY too theme-y, you know?

Out of your choices, I like Allegra, Nadia and Sage & Gideon and Gavin.

You said you like Megan. What about Megha (prn. Meg-uh)? Nadia could be Nadine.

Girls: I really like Sage Constance or Nadia Elaine.

Boys: They all end in -on/an/en sound so pairing any on the list (besides Connell + _____) probably wouldn't be wise. As a first name, though, my favorite would have to be Gavin.

Girls:
Hope - I think its a better middle name than first name
Megan (or variation) - I am not fond of this name at all. There are a lot of Megan's my age (I'm 21)..and im not friends with any of them.
Joy - I like it spelt Joi. Its cute.
Allegra (or variation) -nms
Nadia (or variation) - VERY Pretty. Love it.
Phoebe - Its really cute but It makes me think of Friends.
Josslyn - Cute. I like Joss as a nickname too.
Elaine (middle name) - nice I prefer Elaina but still nice
Sage - very pretty
Constance (middle name - my mom's name) - Nice
Star (middle name - likely choice for boy or girl, story behind it) - Not for a first name. Middle is cool.
Tara - Nice. Simple.

Boys:
Griffin/Griffon/Gryphon - nms
Gideon - I think of that MTV TRL host from a few years ago...but its a ok na,e
Penn - eh. not crazy about this one.
Kellen - never heard of it before but its not bad
Mason (middle name - also my husband's name, and he's Mason IV ... he kind of wants to go for a Mason V, but I just don't know about that). - Ok so I LOVE the name Mason...but I get where you don't want a Mason V maybe. My Dad wanted to name my brother after him (Kevin) but my mom did not want a Kevin Jr. Soo they gave my brother Kevin as a first name but a different middle name than my Dad. Maybe you would like to do that.
Grey/Greyson - LOVE greyson
Tallon - I like it spelt Talan better but its a great name
Terran - I feel like its Terrence without the ence.
Connell - great
Gavin - one of my favorites

Overall I like your names. Sounds like you have some great ones to choose from.

Allegra is a popular allergy drug where I'm from, so that's a no-no for me.

LOVE Kellen for a boy though...one of my favorites.

I like Megan, Nadia and Phoebe, and Constance is nice as a middle name, but the only one of your boys' names I sort of like is Gideon.

I think Nadia Megan sounds good to me as a combo.

Griffin/Griffon/Gryphon - I love it, but I don't know whether I can see it on a kid, and even less an 80yr-old, if you know what I mean!
Gideon Mason
Kellen Grey

I like the pronunciation of both, but I prefer the spelling Jocelyn. I think it's cute for a little girl and still appropriate for an adult.

I'm friends with a girl named Alegria (al-eg-REE-uh, emphasis on the REE), but people generally say it "uh-LEG-ree-uh," which is still pretty but not quite what it's meant to be.
She goes by "Al" and sometimes "Legs", but only to her friends (i.e. never formally).

If the last name is Taylor, I don't think I'd use Tallon, Terran, or Tara.

And I'm not sure if I like the flow of Sage Taylor. Something about the vowel sounds.
