Do you have any favorite names that we ruined by a TV show or Movie or from a TV/Movie, because people will associate the names?

My boys names:
*Nash (from One Life to Live, my husband couldn't deal because he hated the character.  Pregnancy attitude got him to watch:) )
*Spencer (OLTL also.  His character turned into a psychopath.  I couldn't get past it)
*Chandler (FRIENDS)
*Anakin (Star Wars)

My girls names:
*Arabella (someone told me this is an old mean woman on Harry Potter.  Seeing that I refuse to watch it, I wouldn't want to saddle my child with a name that reminds people of an elderly woman)
*Felicity (Kerri Russel's TV show)

Arabella is the name of an old lady from the HP books (she hasn't been in the movies, I don't think), but she's (a) not mean and (b) not a HUGE character in the story. So I doubt it would be the first thing that would come to most people's minds when they hear it. I like the nickname Ari (:

PS - I'm also in love with the name Anakin but wouldn't ever use it because of Star Wars. Which is funny, since that's how I heard the name. But I just wouldn't want the "OMG YOUR PARENTS ARE STAR WARS FREAKS!" reaction because I'm, well, not.

I love the name Emily Rose, but it always makes me think of the movie.

Arabella reminds me of the character from Jude the Obscure...she was not very nice either.

Speaking of soaps, Arabella is the real name of the character Babe on "All My Children". Chandler too reminds me of Adam Chandler on the same show:)

i have a feeling a lot of tv shows, especially ones that may not even be watched anymore in a few years (like someone mentioned Dawson's Creek in another post), will NOT be associated with certain names.

like Chandler for me, i think of Friends. which i like. i don't watch Soaps, & neither do most of my friends/their parents. so if i did that, they would all think of Friends, too lol

btw that last part was because the person above me thinks of the soap opera when she sees Chandler lol.

different people will have different reactions.

I love the name Felicity, but I haven't seen the show so I don't usually associate it with that. And when I mention to people that I like the name, I have never once heard someone say "You mean like the TV show with Keri Russel?" Ha. So I wouldn't worry about it! Anakin might be the only one I wouldn't use because *everyone* has seen star wars! :)

I like the name Spencer a lot, but the guy on "the Hills" (yeah, I watch crappy TV) is such a huge tool, it's quickly losing its appeal. Also Brody, not that I loved that name too much to begin with.

TV shows and pop culture things can be a big problem for uncommon names. What if you name your kid something totally uncommon (say, Lavinia) and suddenly it's the name of the main character in a super-popular sitcom? You can't predict that, but suddenly that's all anyone associates it with. Very tricky.

Was Anakin invented for Star Wars or did it already exist of its own right?

If you like Anakin, maybe you'd like Anika for a girl? I remember when I posted that it was one of my favourite names I got a lot of comments saying "it sounds too much like Anakin"

I actually can't think of a name that a show/movie ruined for me...only ones that movies/shows helped me to LIKE. But yeah, Arabella Figg is kind of a cranky older lady in Harry Potter...but she's not bad...she's just a Squib (magical-born but unable to do magic). I don't think it would remind people of an elderly person though...I think it's pretty. And Figg is a rather small character. You'd have to be a pretty big HP fan to think of her (which I am.)

My favorite boy name right now is Sebastian, but people always bring up the crab from the little mermaid when I mention it. Whatever, the name still isn't ruined for me.

I used to like Adrian for a boy, but my husband would always do a Rocky impression when I mentioned that one, which did kind of ruin it for me. Plus, it sounds too similar to Aiden and all the names that rhyme, which is what really killed it for me.
