tell me, is anyone here NOT giving their future child a middle name (second name)? my child will use my maiden name for his/her middle name instead of another name i have to think up. is this the same thing?
My aunt decided to use her maiden name, my last name, as my cousins' middle names. It was a really nice gesture because on my dad's side of the family, my aunt is his sister, everyone who carried on the last name had girls, so after this generation there would be no one carrying on the name. Now both boys will carry on the name, although it is not their surname.
No matter what the reason is, I think it's really nice to use a maiden name as a middle name, it connects the child to his or her entire heritance and keeps the name going! So there's my thoughts...hope it helps!
yeah, we're naming our son w/ the two middle names albin and white for our father's middle names...which were given to them as surnames from their mother's families.
I'd definately give any children I had a middle name. I don't have one, and the rhetorical question of 'Wait, you don't have a middle name?!' has plagued and annoyed me my entire life.
One of my Army drill sergeants didn't have a middle name, don't know why. I think it's cool sometimes.
Interesting note: Of the famous hymn-writing brothers Charles and John Wesley, John was the only child (of 16) who had a middle name -- his full name was John Benjamin Wesley, after two of the boys before him that had died as toddlers/infants. (I wrote a report paper on JB in high school.)
