My father enjoyed watching the Saturday Afternoon Spaghetti Western Matinees on TV. One afternoon he saw The Appaloosa (1966) with Marlon Brando and Anjanette Comer. He and my mother liked the name so much that they gave it to me ;)
I've noticed that the name has gained a little more use in the 34 years since I was born. I saw this community on LiveJournal's front page and thought I'd contribute, for anyone looking for a female baby name.
