[identity profile] notsoprettygrrl.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

Hi there! This is a great community! I LOVE to think of names for people ( I write short stories) and animals ( I have a LOT)... but I have always wanted 2 kids with the names:

Bentley and Hadley.

I loved the names immediately when I heard them, but it wasn't until a few days ago that I looked the meaning/orgins of their names on a whim. THEY BOTH MEAN THE SAME THING!! Well, basically, Bently is a "meadow of grass" and Hadley is a "meadow of heather." Wierd, huh?

Bentley could be a guy or a girl, but I don't really want a boy. Since I will be adopting, I figure I will have greater control over that, but if my husband wants a boy, then I want his name to be Bentley.  And I would also love the name Bentley on a girl as well.

Hadley would be a girl's name, but I go back and forth on how to spell it.  There are ruins of "Hadleigh" Castle are in a rural area and hour or so outside of London, and I have a painting of the area from a really important person in my life... which would make a great story. HOWEVER, I just LIKE the way the name looks spelled "Hadley" better. I don't know...

What do yall think? Which spelling would you prefer and why?

I like Bentley better for a boy, but it could be cute for a girl too. :) And I really like the sound of the pair of names together. They match very nicely.

I think 'Hadleigh' seems more feminine, but I like the look of Hadley better. Though with the backstory and a castle and all that, Hadleigh might be better in general.

I'm not very fond of Bentley, it's sounds very old fashioned and harsh for a kid, its sounds more like a little old man.
But Hadley on the other hand I LOVE! I think its a gorgeous for either a boy or a girl.
What I think spelling wise, Hadley for a boy and Hadleigh for a girl, because the 'leigh' ending is a little more feminine.

But 'Hadley' just looks nicer. I don't like the 'leigh' on the end of a name much, 'ley' is just neater, and cuter, i think.

But that's just me. :P
