...and another to add to the tally of LJ Spotlight-induced new members. Hehe. Anyways, I'm not expecting to be a mother anytime soon. I just really, really like names. I enjoy writing, and since creating characters is my favorite part of the writing process, I spend quite a bit of time thinking about names.
My name is Nicole Marie. Both relatively common names, though Marie particularly as a middle name. I like my first name well enough, but it irritates me that it's common as both a first name and a middle name. Multiple times I've had classes where I've been one of 3 Nicoles. As for middle names, Nicole is the middle name of my current roommate, one of my best friends, and 2 of my elementary school classmates. And that's just for starters.
I do like the nickname Nikki. I don't really prefer to go by it, but it does make me happy when people close to me pick it up on their own (which is why I still don't introduce myself as Nikki even though I'm surrounded by new people in college). Alas, those people are few and far between - it worked pretty well in elementary/middle school, since that's where it started, but I went to a different high school than most of my friends, & only one person picked it up in high school. =(
