Stella or Petra

I've already posed this question to the community, but considering the recent spotlight & boosted membership, I thought I could get some fresh opinions.

I'm due to give birth soon and am still stuck between two names:

Stella or Petra?

Any thoughts? I'm really frustrated with my indecisiveness. :\

well being one of the new people who just discovere this through the spotlight, I will happily share my opinion. I personally like Petra best. It is less used than Stella (at least where I live), and I've always thought it was a pretty name.

I love the name Stella. It is actually in the running on my own names list. When naming someone, it is important to me that the name can age well. So when I think of Stella, I can see her as a little girl and aging to an old woman. It suits all ages!

Petra--the feminine form of Peter; a foundation or rock.
Stella--stars.

Based on these meanings (admittedly, they're from memory, I haven't actually picked up a name book in a while), but Petra would suggest a more grounded child, while Stella would suggest a more imaginative one.

I like both names.

My cousin's name is Petra, but it's not common here. It had something to do with their missionary work in Germany.

I like Petra a lot more. Stella reminds me of an old lady in a bad way, or How Stella Got Her Groove Back.

There is this huge Ella/Bella/Stella epidemic going around these days. Go with Petra. Petra comes off with a European sophistication, rather than trendiness.

Petra. I met this wonderful woman named Petra when I was in Washington for a wedding, and I think the name is really unique but beautiful. Go for it! (Either one is great.)
