Jun. 8th, 2005 10:58 pmi'm not pregnant, i just love names! here are my favorites ...
boys
ethan andrew
elliot laurence
ian dei
girls
mckaleigh carys
jocelyn alana
- 'dei' is pronounced like "day"
- 'mckaleigh' is pronounced mah-kay-lee. this is the only girl name i have really fallen in love with. a few years ago, i saw an athlete on tv named michellie ... it's the same pronounciation. i LOVE that name, but i know that no one would be able to pronounce it if it was spelled michellie and that is the only way i have seen it spelled. mckaleigh is the only other spelling i really like ... but i don't love the 'mc' at the beginning ... does anyone have any other ideas for spelling? i have looked at mikaylee, mikailey, makayley, etc ... you name it, i've seen it and haven't liked it! ;) or does anyone think michellie would be okay? maybe it's because i'm so used to that spelling, but i do think it looks the best ...
- 'carys' is pronounced carr-iss
- 'alana' is pronounced with a long "a" ... like 'lan' from land.
any thoughts?

Date: 2005-06-08 09:06 pm (UTC)if you need to write a whole paragraph about the pronunciation of one made up mish-mash name, how in the world is a kid every going to learn how to spell it, etc...?
i like elliot laurence, ian day and the name carys
ethan andrew has no flow and your girl names are sure a mouthful!!
but they do look nice on paper.

Date: 2005-06-08 09:14 pm (UTC)elliot laurence -- Handsome, and a bit more interesting.
ian dei -- Distinctive and interesting. I like this one.
mckaleigh carys -- I'm pretty tired of all the kreeativlee McNames and I'll think they'll be very dated sounding in the future. Carys is very pretty though.
jocelyn alana -- Nice.

Date: 2005-06-08 09:46 pm (UTC)i know, it is rather hard. i do really like this name, though. i'm not a huge fan of 'mc' names either. oh well. ;)

Date: 2005-06-08 09:48 pm (UTC)haha. it's not made up ... at least not by me. it's like michaela but with an 'ee' sound instead of 'ah' at the end ... an actual person is named this. i do understand what you're saying, though. sorry the paragraph was so long. i was looking for ideas of spelling it differently.
i think ethan andrew flows well, i guess that's obvious since i like it though. thanks for your comments!

Date: 2005-06-08 09:56 pm (UTC)Alana sounds like you're just pronouncing Ala(h)na incorrectly. I like Mikaeley. *nod*

Date: 2005-06-09 06:43 pm (UTC)As for McKayleigh ... I don't like the spelling, but it seems hard to spell period. I would take away the Mc (I know you said you weren't a big fan anyway) as that doesn't sound like 'mah' anyway, it sounds more like mik (ie mickey mouse) kayleigh. Makalie or Makaylee would work better IMO.

Date: 2005-06-17 10:01 am (UTC)Ethan and Elliot are great, though. And I like McKaleigh. Makaylie, Makaleigh, Michaelee. I'm not sure of an alternate. I think Michellie would be pronounced "Mi-shell-ee" a lot.
My friend named her daughter Michaela, and calls her Kaylie. I also like the name McKenna.
